The global Discover Forgiveness campaign was established to disseminate findings from the science of forgiveness. Its theory of change suggests that key “frontline workers” of forgiveness — specifically mental health professionals, educators, and faith leaders — can act as "force multipliers" in sharing the spiritual information gained by the research.
Tom Harrison of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues at the University of Birmingham will direct an 8-month landscape review of key frontline workers. A report and set of recommendations on how to effectively and efficiently reach the workers with tools and practices from the Discover Forgiveness campaign will also be produced. The project will build on the significant body of forgiveness science research funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation (TWCF) and John Templeton Foundation over the past two decades and the five-year Discover Forgiveness Campaign led by TWCF.
The landscape review will engage key stakeholder groups in the UK, USA, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Singapore. The methodology will primarily involve the use of qualitative data — specifically individual semi-structured interviews in combination with in-person and online focus groups. Insights gathered from these interviews and focus groups will shine light on how best to reach, motivate, and enthuse colleagues in the three sectors with the evidence-based tools from the Discover Forgiveness campaign.
Other expected outputs include:
To achieve these ends, the Jubilee Centre will leverage its extensive global network of contacts within the professions, especially those that value character education.
