The Boundaries of Humanity: Genetics, Biotechnology, and the Human Future is a comprehensive project of interdisciplinary dialogue, scientific and scholarly research, and public outreach and engagement that was supported by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation (JTF). This funding supplements that grant. Led by William Newsome and Bill Hurlbut at Stanford, the project explores several Big Questions central to the Cultural Evolution theme in the JTF Life Sciences program: What are the unique and defining features of human nature? What biological composition, social conditions, and spiritual concepts support the fullest flourishing of these distinguishing dimensions of human life? And, most perplexing, what role will our emerging technologies, and the cultural ideas that guide them, play in shaping the human future?
