This workshop at Templeton World Charity Foundation’s First Annual Global Scientific Conference on Human Flourishing, from a team led by Stephen Brien at The Legatum Institute Foundation, will identify how markets can best support human flourishing. It will explore the role of inclusive societies, open economies, and empowered people by connecting these components to human flourishing, the most pressing challenges across Africa, and success stories that demonstrate good practice. The workshop aims to form a community of practice from a group of leading researchers, funders, and innovators in order to better conceptualize, assess, and enhance flourishing across diverse nations.

Workshop outputs are expected to include a declaration setting out the role of markets as a key component of the development agenda for a flourishing society and a commitment from participants to take the work forward as an African Prosperity Network. The team also anticipates filming interviews for a documentary about global flourishing.
