The Open Research Funders Group (ORFG) is a partnership of 17 philanthropic organizations committed to the open sharing of research outputs. Supporting open science accelerates the pace of discovery, reduces information-sharing gaps, encourages innovation, and promotes reproducibility. Through this project, which is co-directed by Heather Joseph and Greg Tananbaum, ORFG aims to achieve two primary goals:
ORFG expects to grow as both a community of practice and a key driver of open science. A broader, more diverse array of ORFG members will bring new insights and experiences to discussions about open science strategies. This will make it easier for the ORFG to build a comprehensive resource library, develop practical solutions for monitoring policy compliance, and devise principles that enable sharing and collaboration across the global research enterprise.
Moreover, an expanded ORFG will be a tangible marker of the growing emphasis that philanthropies are placing on open science. It will allow the foundation to engage with global policymakers, universities, professional societies, and other key stakeholders, underscoring ORFG’s position as the leading funders' voice on open science.
